Marvel's The Avengers (in theaters and IMAX 3D on May 4th) is the superhero movie of the year, written and directed by one of my favorites - Joss Whedon. I have been looking forward to this screening for weeks and it didn't disappoint. I do highly recommend you watch all the movies leading up to The Avengers beforehand: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. I haven't seen Iron Man 2 or Thor yet and I think it would have helped me understand the characters more and provide insight into their background.
Aside from being action-packed and entertaining, what I loved most about The Avengers is the characterer development and humor that Whedon ties in so well. You really see the contrast between their personalities, how their egos clash with one another and how they unite and put aside their differences to save the world. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments, but Tony Stark and The Hulk just crack me up.
You really see that Whedon-esque touch during the second half of the movie, which reminded me of so many of the battle scenes in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Serenity.
The characters really drew me in, and left me wanting to know more about them and their history with each other (yes, I immediately went home and went on marvel wikia and googled searched some tidibts), like the closeness and connection between Hawkeye and Black Widow, personality clash between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers or conflict between brothers Thor and Loki.
By now, I don't think I have to tell you to stay put while the credits are rolling. I already can't wait for The Avengers sequel, but before that happens we'll get to see Iron Man 3 (2013), Thor 2 (2013) and Captain America 2 (2014).
