As always, I was happy to kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with Nicholas K, and am incredibly excited about the new Pavilion venue that the show took place in. The 6000-ft space allows for multiple seating configurations for different runway formats. I was able to take some of the best pictures I've ever taken during fashion week. There was no struggle to see over people's heads - everyone was quite comfortable in their seats, being able to see each full look.
Nicholas K Fall 2014, titled "Gaumy" is inspired by the dark, cold, mysterious world depicted in the Men at Sea photo series captured by French photographer and filmmaker Jean Gaumy. The dark palette features Atlantic blue, midnight black, charcoal grey, burgundy, cream and an ocean abstract print. Nicholas K stays true to their edgy, layered looks with slouchy, sophisticated silhouettes.
Several of the looks featured handknit cable sweaters worn with slouchy pants tucked into boots and rolled up leather fisherman shorts over leggings, paired with high collar buckle jackets and quilted, hooded parkas. Details included double zippers, multiple pockets and mixed fabrics. The creamy cable knit with leather sleeves was one of my favorite looks, and the leather coats and jackets with the sleeves rolled up are very petite-friendly. The collection showed its sexy side with one shoulder bra tops and deep cut blouses. The fisherman chic looks were styled with handknit fisherman hats with leather straps, actual fisherman work boots by Honeywell and nautical knits and handmade rope necklaces and bracelets.
The show featured hair by Jon Reyman for Aveda, wigs by It's a Wig, make up by Lauren Andersen for Avon Cosmetics and nails by Bondi.
